About Moore Park Children's Early Learning Centre

Moore Park Children's Early Learning Centre is a private long day care service owned and operated by David Epstein. The centre opened just before Christmas in 2005 and is licensed to care for 77 children per day.

Located just minutes from the city, the centre boasts five large separate classrooms and two separate outdoor play areas with permanent play gyms, sandpits and outdoor equipment.

CUSTOM DESIGNED FACILITY

Each room has been custom designed to accommodate the particular needs of children between the ages of 0-5 years. Rather than work around the limitations of an existing space, and perhaps through necessity combining children of varying developmental stages into the one space, we have instead constructed a centre that boasts separate rooms for each of the various developmental stages, thereby providing an opportunity for our children to thrive in an environment that includes their peers!

NURSERY

In line with providing this high quality care our Nursery Section (2 rooms) is designed for only 10 babies under 12 months (Bilbies), and 10 children between 1-2 years (Joeys). Both rooms operate on a staff to child ratio that is above the regulatory requirement ensuring that our youngest children receive the very best of care.

PRESCHOOL

Similarly, our Preschool Program is facilitated by appropriately qualified and experienced teachers who through our school readiness program assist the children by preparing them for their transition to school. Our school readiness program ensures that each of our preschoolers (3-5 years) have access to their own computer facility, enjoy participating in regular French lessons, structured and non structured group activities, and of course free play experiences!

LEARNING JOURNALS

The developmental progression of each child is also closely observed and documented by our qualified staff, and all parents receive a written “Learning Journal” every six months that includes samples of their child’s artwork/photographs, and other relevant developmental information. A great resource and a wonderful photographic portfolio to look back on!

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS CATERED FOR

The centre is also able to cater to each individual child’s dietary requirements since the centre employs a qualified full time cook and a food technologist.

MOORE PARK 2 (NEW CENTRE)

In 2007 growing public interest in our learning centre inspired David to expand our operation to include a second facility. In August 2008 the second centre, Moore Park 2, which will has an additional 39 places, opened in the new Meriton complex on Broome Street in Waterloo, just a few minutes walk from the existing centre.

ROOMS

Zero to Two Years - Bilbies and Joeys

The Nursery has 20 places per day for the under two year olds. With two classrooms (10 children in each) and a shared outdoor play environment, the children in our Nursery get the best of both worlds. The ability to play with children of different ages and the comfort of retreating to their own calm and nurturing playrooms. Each room has its own cot room with security cameras to protect and monitor the children whilst they are asleep. (This footage can only be viewed within the centre). The Bilbies room is for our youngest babies and the Joeys room is for our adventurous older babies.

Two to Three Years - Possums and Koalas

With twenty nine places per day in total our Possums and Koala rooms are stimulating and active places to be for two to three year olds. The Possums room serves as an introduction into our Preschool area and maintains the caring attentiveness found in our Nursery. The Koala room is the place to be for children starting to become a little more independent, and it is here that some of the preschool activities are introduced. The children are encouraged to spread their wings and become involved in larger group dynamics with the security of nurturing carers to support them along the way.

Preschool - Three to Five Years - Wombats and Wallabies

With twenty eight three to five year olds in total, this group operates in two streams. The Wallabies and Wombats.

The Wombats group is set up to transition the children into a more structure preschool program whilst still having the freedom and flexibility to adapt to the children's individual needs. This group is for our three year olds and incorporates elements of our school readiness program such as show and tell. Our Wombats and Wallabies attend daily French lessons and are involved in basic computer skill lessons as part of a well rounded preschool curriculum.

The Wallabies are our leaders. This is our dedicated school readiness class for those children heading off to primary school the following year. The children have the freedom to dictate the projects explored in the classroom and our experienced early childhood teacher incorporates all of the necessary school skills into these projects.

EMERGENT CURRICULUM

Both centres implement an emergent curriculum which allows for fantastic learning experiences to be offered in a structured yet spontaneous environment. Please note that we encourage parental involvement and input into our curriculum. We believe in a holistic approach to the care-giving environment. We believe that it is only through the involvement of children, staff, families and the community that we can provide thoughtful, purposeful and stimulating experiences in the learning environment.
